Chris Gorman MBA, LLM (Tax), CFP®, CLU®, CIM®, TEP
Chris partners with individuals and small businesses and their owners to create and implement long-term, tax-efficient, personalized financial strategies using insurance and investments.
Chris is a Certified Financial Planner® (CFP®), Chartered Life Underwriter® (CLU®), Chartered Investment Manager® (CIM®), and Trust and Estate Practitioner (TEP) working closely with business owners and new or established professionals and their families to address the unique needs and opportunities that they face.
Prior to founding FocalPoint Financial Group in 2018, Chris was an advisor at Sun Life Financial. He graduated from UBC’s Sauder School of Business in 2009 with a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree. In October 2022, Chris graduated from York University's Osgoode Hall Law School with a Master of Laws (LLM) degree specializing in Tax Law.
A lifelong learner, Chris has accepted an offer to study in the Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) degree program at the “triple-crown” accredited Aston Business School at Aston University in Birmingham, UK. He will begin his doctoral studies in April 2024. His research will broadly focus on owner-managers and when they should undertake formal financial planning for maximum impact. While enrolled in this part-time professional doctoral program, he will continue to work full-time with prospective and current clients.
Chris believes in community service and served on the YMCA of Southern Interior BC’s Board of Directors from 2021 to 2023. This appointment continued his commitment to community service, including serving as an elected School Trustee on the Central Okanagan Board of Education (2011 to 2018). Before joining the financial services industry in 2015, Chris volunteered as a Senator on the UBC Senate and a Director of the UBC Alumni Association and the University Children’s Learning Centre Society.
Chris enjoys hockey and spending quality time with his young family in his free time. He lives in Kelowna, BC with his partner, Michelle, and two daughters aged 16 and 13.
